Compliance Certification

BIFMA’s level is the multi-attribute sustainability standard and third-party certification program for the commercial furniture industry. BIFMA developed level to deliver an open and holistic means of evaluating and communicating the environmental and social impacts of furniture products in the built environment. Taking into account a company’s social actions, energy usage, material selection, human and ecosystem health, along with numerous other impacts, level addresses how a product is sustainable from multiple perspectives.

RoHS certification, short for Restriction of Hazardous Substances certification, is a compliance standard that restricts the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic products. The RoHS directive aims to reduce the environmental impact of electronic waste by limiting the use of substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electronic and electrical equipment.

Products that comply with RoHS regulations are certified as RoHS compliant. Manufacturers must ensure that their products meet RoHS requirements and are free from restricted substances. RoHS certification is often a legal requirement for selling electronic products in certain markets, including the European Union (EU), and is indicated by the RoHS compliance mark.

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certification - Food Safety Management System certification is a process control system designed to identify and prevent microbial and other hazards in food production and entire food chain. HACCP certification includes steps designed to prevent problems before they occur and to correct deviations through a systematic way as soon as they are detected.

Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification is a system that ensures that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards appropriate to their intended use and as required by regulatory authorities. GMP certification is typically applied in industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and medical devices.

GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification is a set of guidelines and standards that define the practices and procedures for the sustainable production of crops and other agricultural products. GAP certification aims to ensure that agricultural products are produced safely, sustainably, and with minimal environmental impact.

The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) certification is a program aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the textile, leather, and footwear industries by eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals. It was initiated by a group of major brands and retailers in the industry to promote sustainable chemical management practices.

The ZDHC program provides tools, standards, and guidance to help companies manage their chemical usage more responsibly. It includes a Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) that specifies which chemicals are prohibited or restricted in the production of textiles, leather, and footwear. Companies that meet the requirements of the ZDHC program can achieve ZDHC certification, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable chemical management.

GREENGUARD Certification is a program that certifies products and materials for low chemical emissions, helping to improve indoor air quality. Products that meet stringent chemical emissions criteria are awarded GREENGUARD Certification, indicating that they contribute to healthier indoor environments. This certification is often sought after for building materials, furnishings, finishes, and other products used in indoor spaces.

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. It is intended to verify the recycled content of products and to ensure that environmental and social criteria are met during production.

The GRS was developed by Textile Exchange, a global nonprofit organization that works to promote more sustainable and responsible practices in the textile industry. The standard covers the full supply chain, from the recycling of materials to the final product, and is applicable to any product that contains at least 20% recycled material.

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is a global, voluntary standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content in products. It is used to verify the presence and amount of recycled material in a product and to track the flow of recycled materials through the supply chain. The RCS is applicable to any product that contains at least 5% recycled material.
